Kringen Youth Klubb

Kringen Youth Klubb held their monthly meeting on Saturday, March 8. We had a very good attendance, even though the day was rather stormy.
The Youth Klubb spent the first hour reviewing folk dance in preparation for upcoming events. The second hour was spent watching treasured “classic” Norwegian folktales collected by Peter Christen Asbjornsen and Jorgen Moe.
It is said that Asbjornsen and Moe traveled about listening to the different tales being told, collected the tales, and consequently, put them in print. The tales collected by Asbjornsen and Moe have long been a treasure in Norway, first appearing in translation more than a hundred years ago. Much later, approximately thirty-five years ago, a filmmaker named Ivo Caprino took these treasured tales a step further, putting them to film by using animated dolls to characterize the figures in the folktales.
We thank Frode Tilden, Assistant Youth Director, for sharing the films with us. Frode was fortunate to receive this valuable and treasured set of films from his father in Norway.

The Youth and parents, as well, were very entertained and enjoyed seeing the "classics."

KRINGEN YOUTH KLUBB MINI TOUR
NORWEGIAN FJORD HORSE FARM TOUR, ROSHOLT, SD

"Sturdy, sweet, strong, smart, and sociable." That's how owners describe their Norwegian Fjord horses ... and ... people who love "Fjords" love them fiercely" "Fjords" are the best loved for their temperament.
Saturday, May 10, brings the highlight of the year, which is our one-day bus trip to the Robert and Sally Kjorsvik Norwegian Fjord Horse Farm, Roslyn, SD. the Kjorsviks are wonderful hosts and provide so much fun for the Youth. They greet the bus with open arms and we are off to see the horses!
The Norwegian Fjord horses are so beautiful and gentle with the kids. The horses love to be fed, petted, and "made a fuss over." They even display some jealousy as they nudge one another to get attention from the kids. These horses are delightful.
A lunch will be served at the farm, and no one will leave hungry! There will also be some time to relax and socialize after lunch. Youth will have access to videos, table tennis, etc., if desired, or more time with the horses. Horse-drawn wagon rides for Youth and adults, if desired, will conclude our time at the farm.
We leave the farm about 1:00 p.m. and drive to Fort Sisseton, SD, for a tour and orientation of this very old and interesting fort. Following this tour, we will visit Joseph Nicollet Tower and Interpretive Center and challenge the 76 foot high climb to the top of Nicollet Tower to observe all three states - ND, MN, and SD. Bring your cameras for picture-taking.
The day goes quickly and by 4:30 p.m., we head for Fargo, with our last stop being Sisseton Dairy Queen for root beer and hamburgers.

This is a "fun" trip and I encourage Youth and Adults alike to join in on this adventure.
"TRY IT ... YOU WILL ENJOY!"

In Friendship, "Ha det bra"
